Vahid Momtaz


Bio

Vahid Momtaz holds a PhD in Psychology, with his doctoral research focused on emotional abuse. His thesis led to the development of the first comprehensive Emotional Abuse Questionnaire, contributing significantly to the field of understanding and assessing emotional abuse.

He has more than 12 years of academic experience as a university lecturer, teaching and mentoring students in psychology and related disciplines. Alongside his academic work, Vahid has over 18 years of practical experience in the Non-Violence Programme (NVP)—12 years in Iran and over 6 years in New Zealand. His work spans assessments, one-to-one interventions, and group facilitation, with a particular focus on men’s behaviour change and violence prevention. He continues to actively facilitate NVP groups in New Zealand.

Vahid is currently a talk therapist at RASNZ, where he provides mental health services to refugees. He has extensive experience working with people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. In addition, he runs men’s groups at the TAMA Resettlement Centre, with a strong focus on preventing family violence and supporting healthier family relationships within refugee and resettled communities.
